Limited-Edition, Iris Giclee Prints of Numerous Paintings are Available...

What is a Limited Edition?

An artist produces a number of prints of one image called an Edition. Thereafter the file, film or plate is usually destroyed. Each print is hand numbered and signed by the artist to show the number of prints in an edition. For example, 5/100 tells you it is the 5th print in an edition of 100. Artist's proofs (signed AlP on the print) are the first 'test prints' printed for the artist's approval. Artist's proofs are highly collectable for their rarity.

What is an Iris Giclee?

With the advent of the Giclee (pronounced 'zhee-clay") the art of fine art printing has become even more precise. Because no screens are used, the prints have a higher apparent resolution than lithographs. The dynamic color range is like serigraphy. A Giclee is produced from a digitally scanned electronic file of the original art work. In the Giclee printing process, each piece is carefully hand mounted onto a drum which rotates during printing. This produces a combination of 512 chromatic changes (with over 3 million colors possible) of highly saturated, nontoxic water-based ink. A fine stream of ink (more than four million droplets per second) is sprayed onto archival art paper or canvas (often on the same material used to create the original such as museum-quality acid-free watercolor paper) producing deep saturated colors and a paint-like quality that retains meticulous detail including subtle tints and blends Normally, Giclees are produced in smaller editions than Lithographs. By limiting the print run to fewer numbers and utilizing the superior quality of a Giclee the value of the print is increased. Displaying a full color spectrum, Giclee fine art prints capture every nuance of an original
painting. They meet the precise criteria of fine art collectors desiring museum quality limited edition prints and have gained wide acceptance from artists and major art institutions.
