Gerald "Jerry" Botzum resides in Avon, Indiana - about 10 West of Indianapolis. His studio and gallery is situated above his residence where it overlooks a hillside accented with a meandering crippled creek and a small pond - all wrapped in a secluded blanket of native trees. A place for quiet reflection and inspiration.

Most of his paintings reflect a moodiness and seem to contain an expression of empathy for those people and places that he encounters during his travels.


To see beyond the visual and auditory noise of the modern life and to capture the songs that resonate within is the essence of my paintings


If time permits, he prefers to paint on location (plein air) but he sometimes paints from photos.


I interlock my visual memory with the feelings that I had when I came upon the scene. So, when I refer back to the photo it seems to all come back to me as if I were there. My mind allows me to create that 'en plein air' sense that the photograph leaves out.


Recent plein air paintings include works done in France, Italy, Spain and other parts of Europe, the seaboards of the US, and in many of Indiana's country sides. Paintings of the islands, Ireland, London and a number of other visited spots can be found.
